Altus has specialised experience in the establishment, management and collection of commercial portfolios and single corporate restructuring and asset management services. 

Through its Structured Finance Service Team, Altus creates Business Plans outlining the strategy for the overall management of a portfolio of assets, including projected cash flows and detailed recommendations on management strategies executed from the Portfolio. 

Altus principals acted as Project Director for the purchase of non-performing loan assets from over 20 separate publicly held financial institutions, representing over US$8 billion in loans to corporate and individual borrowers. Each transaction included the analysis, due diligence and valuation modelling required for extensive negotiations with each financial institution.

Corporate Transactional Advisory

Altus provides the following services:

  • Providing support to senior management and owners of businesses in their decision making processes with independent and objective advice.

  • Providing analytical and structuring support to companies and investors to improve their total expected return in situations of deteriorating performance, growth and transformation.  

 

  • Providing structure and guidance to implementing a formal or informal work-out or turn-around of a business and offer an objective evaluation and creation of business plans.

  • Providing international investors with an established servicing platform for the management of assets upon consummation.

  • Providing day-to-day oversight and management of the assets, including developing resolution strategies in-line with the overall business plan, maintaining up-to-date valuation templates, monthly and quarterly reports and annual budgets and cash flow projections

Examples of successful transactions

  • ​​Project Director for the purchase of a publicly listed finance company by private equity. The transaction included extensive negotiations between the seller, financial creditors, and management while structuring a mixture of refinancing facilities, on-balance sheet asset-backed securitizations and equity investments.

  • Project Director for the financial restructuring of a major publicly held conglomerate with over $650 million in liabilities. The engagement included developing restructuring and strategic business plans while performing valuations for its 40 subsidiaries. Conducted negotiations with the company’s 80 different creditors for the consensual agreement on the restructuring plan.

  • Project Director for the financial restructuring of a Mercedes Benz auto assembler.  Liabilities restructured totalled over $600 million. Through the appointment by the financial creditors, developed alternative restructuring and strategic business plans that were used as the basis for implementation by the company.

  • Project Director for the financial restructuring of a highly leveraged auto parts manufacturer with approximately $100 million in liabilities. Developed financial restructuring plans while identifying new sources of capital and strategic investment.

  • Project Director for the financial restructuring of two publicly listed chemical manufacturers located in Jakarta, Indonesia with approximately $300 million in associated liabilities. Developed strategic business and financial restructuring plans while conducting negotiations with a diverse group of 20 multinational creditors.

Public Sector Advisory

Altus has prepared business plans, project planning and conducted research for various governmental agencies.  Through its solid working relationship with global public sector organisations including Ministries of Social Welfare in over 15 countries, Altus chaired meetings with various Governmental Ministries and Non-Governmental organisations in Pakistan, Myanmar, Fiji and Vanuatu.

Altus prepared comprehensive reports for projects established by the Ministry of Social Development and Human Security of Thailand and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) for the evaluation and effectiveness of its jointly development program, the Asia-Pacific Development Centre on Disability for Information Resource Support, Educational Training and Networking and Collaboration.

Research projects and reports have been published for use by ESCAP countries including governmental agencies and related concerns covering Vanuatu, Pakistan, Myanmar, China, Philippines, India, Bangladesh, Malaysia, Nepal, Indonesia, Bhutan, Samoa and Sri Lanka.

Led high-level negotiations with the Department of Finance of the Philippines to determine economic, political feasibility and required changes in legislation for foreign investment in the Philippines. These discussions resulted in the highly publicised commitment of Lehman Brothers to invest up to US$1 billion for a Philippine Recovery Fund with the Government of the Philippines.

Prepared and presented technical proposals to key Thai Government officials and economic advisors, including tax burden and economic impacts of the proposed structure and mechanisms of the National Asset Management Company, a Thailand Government led banking industry bailout fund.
